What are peer-reviewed articles, and why is my professor asking me to use them in my paper?

Answer

Peer-reviewed articles go through a long process before being published in academic journals. This process includes being reviewed by other experts in the field (hence, peer-review). Going through this process ensures the content is credible.

Most databases have the option to limit your results to only articles that are peer-reviewed. This option will usually appear to the left of your search results, no matter what database you're using. If you have a hard time locating it, try going to "advanced search."

If you are unsure if an article is peer-reviewed, you can click on the name of the journal it's published in to get more information. If the journal is peer-reviewed, it will say so.
