I'm finding too many/not enough sources on my topic. What am I doing wrong?

Answer

If you're getting too many results when you search for sources, you probably need to narrow your topic to something more specific. Try looking over your in-class readings or notes, and think about what aspects of your topic really interest you. You can also try browsing through your long list of search results to see what scholars are talking about, and find a way you can add to the conversation.

If you're not getting enough results, your topic may be too specific. Try brainstorming umbrella terms that elements of your topic fall under, i.e. changing "apples" to "fruits," or "Twitter" to "social media." Also, see if you can expand the population or geographic area you're considering.
